The Spirit of Prayer in Saint Comboni

Piety is the daily bread of our missionaries, as it is seen as absolutely necessary for maintaining the fervour of one's vocation."

These expressions from St. Comboni (and there are many others) show the authentic substance of the spirit of prayer of the missionary, making prayer itself a tool to make his ministry more effective.  The spirit of prayer is the natural expression of the religious awareness of the Christian. This awareness in fact, consists in the perception of God's ever-abiding presence.

The saints are our teachers, the assist and educate us in the interior journey within the soul. It is the most adventurous journey of all ~ because at the centre we find the living God!

In silence and stillness, the soul learns to listen; in prayer and presence, the missionary finds not merely strength for the work, but the very heart of the work itself. For the one who abides in God's presence transforms every encounter into a sacred meeting, every word into a seed of grace, and every struggle into an offering of love. The deepest wells nourish the highest peaks—and so the missionary who descends daily into prayer ascends most powerfully into service.
