Comboni Missionary Community

The way in which we live our consecration to the mission and which St. Daniel Comboni proposed to the members of his Institute ~ is that of community life. The Comboni Missionaries are an international, intercultural community of priests and brothers who live in solidarity with the people where they are sent to serve. In the words of St. Comboni, "The work must be catholic, not just Spanish, French, German or Italian... a little cenacle of Apostles, of zealous and virtuous missionaries which emerge from his heart."

The cenacle has a centre ~ the Heart of God. The missionary is aware that it is the Spirit of God which "visibly precedes the apostolic action, unceasingly accompanies it and directs it in various ways" (Ad Gentes 4); day by day he is open to its action, perceiving the signs of its presence in people and events, giving long periods of time to personal and community prayer.

the missionary journey is never one of solitary heroism, but always a shared pilgrimage sustained by prayer and fraternal communion. In embracing diverse cultures and crossing human boundaries, the missionary cenacle becomes itself a living sign of the Kingdom—a testimony that God's love transcends every division. It is in this humble dependence on the Spirit and in the fellowship of the community that the missionary finds both strength for the arduous path and joy in the privilege of serving Christ in the poorest and most abandoned. Here, mission becomes not merely what we do, but who we are called to become together.
