The People of God
St. Comboni wanted everyone involved in the mission of the Church ~ The People of God ~ is missionary by it's very nature. He saw in the prophetic voices and heroic people of the Church over the ages, the living out of the missionary calling ~ that have also led to admirable undertakings. He too, entered the missionary movement, with a contribution that stands out for its courage and its originality.
His appeal is based on the conviction that the Plan is both a divine work and one of outstanding charity. "This is the hour", he would say, a reply is needed urgently. He journeyed and asked for prayers, his invitation to leave for the mission, his call for personnel, asked for the involvement of the community ~ and produced men and women ready to dedicate themselves totally, in response to the divine vocation.
The Comboni Missionary Fathers, Brothers, Sisters and Lay-missionaries are proclaimers of the good news and strive to live with the splendour of the truth of the fire of charity.
St. Comboni understood what the Church often forgets: that mission is not the work of the few, but the calling of all. His legacy reminds us that when ordinary people answer an extraordinary invitation, the impossible becomes inevitable. The question is never whether God's plan needs us, but whether we will have the courage to say yes when the hour arrives.
