St. Comboni Feast Day

Yesterday, Oct. 10th was the feast day of St. Comboni, when Comboni Missionaries around the world ~ together with the wider members of the Comboni Family remember the passion St. Daniel had for Africa and Church's Mission. He manifested his thought in a "Postulatum" that was directed to the Fathers of the First Vatican Council (June 24th 1870). In it he addressed his hope wish and hope that Africa would soon have its share of life in the Church. When he called attention to Africa to the Council Fathers of Vatican l, the continent was not represented at all! It was a continent well defined as the most abandoned and exploited of the world. What wonders the Lord has done through St. Comboni.

He synthesized his option for Africa with this vivid motto: "Save Africa with Africa". He did not confine himself to write down this motto but he practiced it and gave for it all his energies and life. This has been and continues to be a renewing stimulus for the mccj ~ for ever improving and implementing what we state in our Rule of Life: that mission animation of the People of God is truly a missionary service which must go together with first evangelization.

The vocation and example of St. Comboni calls all in the Comboni family to animate the People of God to its missionary responsibilities, so that it may take up its role of proclaiming the Gospel worldwide.
