When we think of power, we maybe think of something negative, something to be avoided by all who strive to live the gospel call to be peacemakers... Everyday we see the abuse of power around the world. Jesus offered another view of power ~ the power of transformative love, through the Holy Spirit.

Disciples of Jesus are promised that they will not be left alone, "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses". This is a promise for all times to those who follow Him. We are given power from the Holy Spirit to act boldly in challenging and troubling times, to act wisely when faced with difficult decisions and act with love and compassion when encountering hatred.

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we can, through our words and actions, witness that love is the greatest and most effective power one can seek!

True Christian power is not the ability to control events or people, but the grace to remain faithful to love when fear, violence, and division demand otherwise.
