Life-giving Relationships
Over the past fifty years, the quest for Peace, Justice, and the Integrity of Creation has evolved from a peripheral concern to the very heart of the Church's mission. This conviction, powerfully articulated by the 1971 Synod of Bishops, declares that working for a just world is a constitutive part of preaching the Gospel—a non-negotiable expression of love for neighbor.
Rooted in the Hebrew scriptures, this justice (mishpat, tsedeqah) is not about abstract rights but about God's character of solidarity with the oppressed, demanding right relationships and the restoration of life for all. To love rightly, therefore, is to act justly, for true compassion builds a new edifice so that none are left to beg at the door.
