Hope Beyond our Understanding

"God knows my pain".

I am always left with a deep impression when speaking to those who are suffering, of their hope that comes with looking to Jesus. His body carried all our dis-ease, pain and contempt. He knows what this is all about!

He knows my feelings and he knows my heart.

He is raging when human dignity is injured.

That kind of rage can only be provoked by the strongest love there is ~ the rage that occurs when those we love most are hurt or injured in any way.

God's rage at our suffering is not separate from His compassion—it is the fierce face of His tenderness. He does not observe our pain from a distance with clinical sympathy but enters into it with the full fury of one whose beloved is being harmed. This is why the cross matters: it is where God's rage at injustice and His absorption of our pain meet in one shattering act of solidarity.

We give thanks to God for giving us hope beyond our understanding and ask for help to trust and lean on it throughout our lives.
