The Heart of Mary - Magnificat

In St. Daniel Comboni's spirituality and in his understanding of the Church and Mission, Mary had a privilege place. The Heart of Mary, the model of a "new heart" ~ the gift and sign of the New Covenant. The Heart of Mary, welcomed the Word of God and is called first of all "the dwelling place of the Word".

Her heart is called wise, because Mary interpreted events in the light of the prophesies , kept in her heart the memory of the words and actions regarding the mystery of salvation; docile, because she carried out all the commands of the Lord with joy ; new, according to the prophesy of Ezechiel (Ez 36:26); meek, in conformity with the Heart of Christ who admonishes, "Learn from me for I am meek and humble of heart" and filled completely with the spirit of truth; pure, that is according to the Beatitude proclaimed by the Lord, able to see God; strong, in embracing the will of God when, in accordance with the prophecy of Simeon, when her Son's death was imminent; vigilant, while Christ slept in the tomb ~ the Heart of Mary, like the spouse in the Canticle (Ct 5:2) kept vigil while awaiting the resurrection of Christ.

A heart that exalted God for the gift so great, a Magnificat of joyful praise ~ let us magnify His name together! Holiness is not the absence of piercing sorrow, but the presence of unwavering love, a love that keeps vigil in the dark, magnifies God in the mystery, and transforms every wound into a dwelling place for the Word.
