Comboni-Lay Missionaries

Mission today cannot be lived in isolation. At its heart, mission is collaboration—not as a convenient strategy, but as an essential way of being missionary. We live in an age marked by individualism and fragmentation, where people often work side by side yet remain disconnected. In the light of the Gospel, and in fidelity to our charism, we are called to cultivate an attitude of openness, shared responsibility, and genuine collaboration.

Seen in this way, the growing presence of lay missionaries in the life and mission of the Church is a true sign of the times—and a hopeful one. The Comboni Lay Missionaries represent a new and meaningful expression of the Comboni charism. Through a deep knowledge of our Founder and an identification with his spirituality, they become part of the wider Comboni Family. This belonging is made visible through concrete choices: a preferential option for the least, commitment to community life, and close collaboration with local and provincial Comboni communities.

Comboni Lay Missionaries live their Christian vocation through a wide range of ministries, including pastoral work, education, health care, and rural development. They witness to the Gospel by sharing their professional skills and life experience in ways that empower the people they serve. Rather than replacing local initiative, they encourage others to become leaders within their own churches and communities.

In all that they do, the witness of Comboni Lay Missionaries is marked by deep respect for human dignity and freedom. Their mission speaks quietly but clearly: the Gospel is most alive where people walk together, listen deeply, and build the Kingdom side by side.
