Arise Today

"I arise today through the strength of heaven, light of sun, radiance of moon, splendor of fire, speed of lightning, swiftness of wind, depth of sea, stability of earth, firmness of rock. I arise today, through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity, through belief in the threeness, through confession of the oneness of the Creator of Creation."

~ St. Patrick

There's a humility here that modern culture struggles with—the recognition that our power comes from our connection to forces greater than ourselves, not from isolation or pure willpower.

The genius is in the grounding: sun, moon, fire, wind, sea, earth, rock—these aren't metaphors for personal qualities. They're actual sources of vitality he's acknowledging and drawing from. He's not trying to be the fire; he's letting the fire's splendour flow through him. That's the difference between arrogance and confidence.
