Our preparation for Confirmation runs from November to May
THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION
Confirmation is the Sacrament in which Jesus seals us with the Holy Spirit. We are joined more closely to Jesus and become full Members of His Church.
“Every baptised person is encouraged to receive
the Sacrament of Confirmation.”
[Catechism of the Catholic Church #1306]
The overall goal is to bring candidates to a personal encounter with Jesus and
the life giving experience of the Holy Spirit.
The Sacrament of Confirmation builds on the Sacraments of Baptism, Penance, and Holy Communion, completing the process of initiation into the Catholic Faith.
The Confirmation Programme covers: Prayer, the Sacraments, the Liturgical Year, Gifts and Fruits of the Holy Spirit, the Beatitudes, the Ten Commandments, the Stations of the Cross, and, very importantly, study of the Bible and Basic Christian Truths.
Sessions are based on the Alpha Youth Course and are held weekly during term time. We explore such topics as “Does God Exist?”, “Why Did Jesus Have to Die?”, and “Who is the Holy Spirit?”.
Interaction and lively discussions are encouraged!
Parents, family and friends (whether confirmed or not) – please join in. Anyone, young or old, who has made their First Holy Communion, is welcome to join this programme, with a view to being confirmed by the Bishop in May if they feel ready.
‘Oh, come to the water all you who are thirsty;
though you have no money, come!
Buy corn without money, and eat, and,
at no cost, wine and milk.
Why spend money on what is not bread,
your wages on what fails to satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and you will have good things
to eat and rich food to enjoy.
Pay attention, come to me;
listen, and your soul will live.'
For candidates aged 13 and over, Confirmation Forms are available at the back of church from September, or:
